Guidance in an increasingly complex environment

The year 2025 demanded clear action and resilience as the economic and regulatory landscape fundamentally altered the decision-making logic of many companies.

CEO Thomas Studhalter says: “Markets, regulation and technology can no longer be viewed in isolation. Our clients have to make decisions in an environment in which economic, regulatory and technological developments collide. Our is mission to help our clients understand how these are connected and provide guidance to enable informed decisions.

Many companies began to focus on the question of how to implement new regulations, technological capabilities and operational requirements in practice. This development was reflected in the demand for services where BDO supports clients across multiple specialist areas.

Digitalisation drives progress

In 2025, BDO pushed ahead with the ongoing development of its services, using digitalisation as a key driver and focusing on targeted use of digital solutions and the systematic optimisation of internal processes.

Digital tools and automated processes play a key role in reducing administrative tasks and freeing up more time to meet the demands of audit and advisory engagements. This allows the expertise and experience of BDO professionals to be deployed more effectively.

In parallel, BDO invests continuously in the professional development of its people. Around five per cent of the total budget was allocated to learning and development. Technological capabilities are also being expanded on an ongoing basis.

Another important project in the reporting year was preparing for the consolidation of all BDO’s digital departments into BDO Digital. This change came into effect on 1 January 2026, and the profit centre now operates under the name ‘BDO Digital’.

Development of business areas

Audit continued the positive trend of recent years (CHF 98.0 million, +2.2%).

Stricter requirements around documentation, the risk-based approach and transparency remain key themes for the sector. BDO made targeted investments in quality management and technology to support the audit process in order to meet these requirements and further strengthen its high standards of quality. It should also be noted that, effective 1 January 2025, certain services within Risk and Performance Advisory Services are no longer part of Audit but are now under Advisory (core audit services grew by around 6 percent).

Business Solutions also performed well (CHF 90.6 million, +1.1%). Many companies are increasingly turning to integrated solutions that combine fiduciary services with digital processes and business consulting. At the same time, automation and standardised systems are transforming traditional fiduciary processes. Against this backdrop, BDO consistently drove forward its transformation from a traditional fiduciary firm to a tech-enabled service provider during the reporting year.

Tax & Legal looks back on a successful financial year (CHF 37.8 million, +7.9%) in a period marked by geopolitical, regulatory and (trade) policy shifts that had immediate tax implications. Accordingly, demand for specialised and integrated tax and legal advice increased.

Within Financial Services, BDO focused on strategic prioritisation, improving efficiency and expanding its specialist audit and advisory capabilities. Despite streamlining its service offering, revenue remained stable at the prior-year level (CHF 19.4 million), providing a solid foundation for the further development of client-centric services.

Other services generated revenue of CHF 47.8 million (+14.1%), with Deal Advisory and Abacus performing particularly well. Following a period of caution, the M&A market showed signs of revival. In addition, many companies increased investment in further developing their business models and processes.

BDO Sustainability Report 2025

Alongside its Annual Report, BDO is also publishing its 2025 Sustainability Report, which documents progress in key areas of corporate responsibility. During the reporting year, BDO reduced its total emissions by 10.9 percent compared with the prior year. This was achieved through a further reduction in emissions from business travel and employee commuting, among other things. BDO Switzerland received the EcoVadis Silver Medal for the first time in recognition of its sustainability performance; this places the company among the top 15 percent of those assessed worldwide.
