Employees abroad

We have employees abroad, what should we be aware of?

Home office, workation, skilled workers from abroad. Almost all businesses today have to deal with cross-border issues. We explain the limits and suggest ways to prevent opportunities from becoming risks.

Besides understanding permit requirements and labour law, great importance must be attached in particular to understanding where social security obligations apply. If employees are accounted for in the wrong country, the greatest risk is not the retroactive levying of contributions by another country. It's the occurrence of an insured event that subsequently turns out not to be insured. Then, the employer is liable for the resulting damage. In the worst-case scenario, this could include a lifelong pension in addition to medical costs.

Incidentally, working with people abroad on a self-employed basis does not usually fully solve the issues.
